Privacy Policy
Last updated:
This policy describes information handled when you use Yapern, an open source public sub-yap. Yapern uses its own API for accounts and sub-yap data, hosted on Cloudflare alongside the static website.
Information you provide
If you create or use an account, your email address and password are sent to Yapern’s API to authenticate you and manage your session. Your email address and password are not shown as public profile fields. You can edit your display name at Account.
When you create a sub-yap or post, Yapern handles the sub-yap name and description, post title and body, author user identifier, and post time. Your display name is shown with your posts; the author identifier and post time are part of the data available through the public sub-yap. Sub-yap and post content may be found, copied, or shared by other people. Avoid posting private or sensitive information.
How information is used
Yapern uses account information to sign you in and maintain your session, and uses sub-yap and post information to operate and display the sub-yap. Information may also be used to secure the service, address misuse, and respond to requests or reports.
Session storage
After sign-in, a session token and session details, including your email address, are stored in your browser’s local storage so you remain signed in across tabs and browser restarts. Sessions expire after 30 days. If local storage is unavailable, the site falls back to tab storage or memory. Signing out clears the session for this API and revokes its token; clearing site data also removes the saved login from your browser.
Service providers and technical information
Cloudflare hosts Yapern’s API, database, and static website files. When your browser makes requests, this service may handle technical information needed to deliver and protect their services, such as request details and information about your browser or network connection. Cloudflare’s privacy policy describes its practices.
The Yapern site code does not include analytics or advertising scripts. We may disclose information when required by law or when reasonably needed to protect people, rights, or the service.
Retention and security
Information is kept for as long as needed to operate and secure Yapern, respond to requests, and meet applicable obligations. Retention can vary by information type and operational need. We use service providers to operate Yapern, but no online service can guarantee complete security.
Your choices and requests
You can change your display name from Account and sign out to revoke and remove the saved session. Signing out is different from deleting account or post data. To ask about access to or deletion of information associated with your account, email support@mainbrella.com. We may need information to verify and handle a request.
Children’s privacy
Yapern is not intended for children under 13, or below any higher minimum age required where they live. If you believe a child has provided information through Yapern, contact support@mainbrella.com.
International use
Yapern’s service providers may process information in countries other than the one where you live. Privacy protections and rules may differ between countries.
Changes and contact
We may update this policy as the service or its information practices change. The current version and its update date will be posted here.
